🌤️ Sweet Spots and Missed Moments
The past several mornings, despite increasing afternoon temps, have been fairly cool. Refreshingly pleasant—especially considering what is assuredly approaching. It’s kind of a “weather sweet spot.”
But I realized something one morning as I sat inside writing, while it was absolutely perfect outside:
Am I cherishing these sweet spots… or just noticing them with a casual nod?
You know the kind—the polite, half-hearted nod you give to an old acquaintance in the Walmart aisle. “I see you, but I’m not really stopping.”
Is that how we treat life’s sweetest moments?
🌷 The Gift of Recognizing Sweet Spots
Recently, much of our family gathered here—including our precious new granddaughter—to celebrate our daughter’s graduation. The mornings and evenings were perfect and peaceful. The laughter, conversation, and simple presence of loved ones… indeed, it was a sweet spot.
But did I cherish it?
Or did I just live through it, vaguely appreciating it without fully savoring each beautiful moment?
Sometimes everything in life aligns perfectly—job, family, marriage, health, finances. And yet, it’s far too easy to take these seasons for granted.
đź“– The Reminder We Need
The Bible says:
“Every good and perfect gift is from above.” —James 1:17
And also reminds us:
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” —Psalm 107:1
God’s gifts—big or small, dramatic or quiet—deserve our attention and gratitude. But more than acknowledgment, they deserve to be cherished.
🙌 How to Cherish (Not Just Notice)
Here’s what I’m striving to learn about truly cherishing sweet spots:
- Slow down.
Sit in the moment without rushing to the next. - Notice the details.
The laughter. The sights. The gentle breeze. - Express gratitude.
Tell God—and tell the people around you—how deeply thankful you are. - Remember and reflect.
Keep the memory alive through journaling, photos, and storytelling.
✨ Reflection Questions
Pause and ask yourself:
- What “sweet spot” am I currently experiencing or recently experienced?
- Have I truly cherished it, or have I just nodded politely in passing?
- How can I intentionally savor today’s gifts and blessings?
🙏 Final Thought
We don’t live most of our days in sweet spots—but when we do find ourselves there, let’s not miss it.
Let’s pause, let’s breathe, and let’s deeply cherish it—giving thanks to the Giver of every good and perfect gift.
Lord, help me not only recognize my sweet spots but truly cherish each one, giving You the thanks You deserve.
