For Just One Crazed Man

No One Is Too Far

In Luke 8, we find one of the most extraordinary acts of compassion in the Gospels. Jesus crosses a lake in the middle of a fierce storm to reach one man—a man who, by society’s standards, was beyond help. This “crazed madman in chains” was an outcast, isolated and tormented. And yet, Jesus made the journey, calmed the storm, and freed the man from his demons. Afterward, He returned to the other side of the lake. It’s as if the entire trip was solely for this one outcast.

What an incredible reminder of Jesus’ heart for the lost. There is no place too far, no condition too dire, and no person too broken for Him to reach. He sees value where others see waste, hope where others see despair. If you have a loved one who seems lost, take heart: Jesus hasn’t given up on them, and neither should you.

As we trust Him, let’s also imitate Him. Who in your life feels cast aside or forgotten? Who might God be asking you to reach out to, even if it feels inconvenient or uncomfortable? Just as Jesus didn’t hesitate to cross the stormy lake for one, we can show His love by crossing the barriers in our own lives to extend grace and compassion to someone who needs it.

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10).

No one is too far gone. Let’s trust in His faithfulness and act as His hands and feet today.
