📦 Downsizing ➡️Upgrading
Several years ago, I gave up a very spacious office.
A growing team meant more hands on deck—so I moved out to make room for three others. My new space?
Smaller. Cozier. Less Space.
Books were boxed. Furniture was left behind. Walls were now closer.
But do you know what surprised me?
I liked it better.
đź’ˇ When Less Really Is More
It felt more personal, more intimate.
Like the difference between a crowded café and a corner booth for two.
It was quiet. Focused. Simple.
And I realized something:
The space around me doesn’t determine the joy within me.
🤔 A Metaphor for Life
We often assume more equals better.
More square footage. More stuff. More…more.
But what if less—with intention—makes room for more of what matters?
More clarity.
More connection.
More gratitude.
Philippians 4:11–12 reminds us of Paul’s contentment in every circumstance—plenty or little.
Maybe that’s the real invitation: to be at peace in our “downsized” seasons, too.
🏡 Contentment in the Corners
I don’t need more to be fulfilled.
I need less noise, more presence.
Fewer distractions, deeper meaning.
And that cozy little space at the end of the staff hallway?
It wasn’t a downgrade.
It was a gift, one that I have missed since leaving years ago…
📍 Reflection Questions
- Have you ever gained peace by releasing something you thought you needed?
- What “smaller space” are you resisting that might actually hold more meaning?
- How might simplicity make room for spiritual or relational richness in your life?
🙏 Final Thought
Sometimes God calls us into smaller spaces to give us bigger perspective.
So let’s stop measuring joy by the square footage of our lives.
And start finding it in the sacred corners—where purpose, presence, and peace quietly dwell.
