Start and Never Stop: Redeeming the Time You Have

⏳ The Time Paradox We All Live In

Have you ever noticed how life plays this strange trick on us?

On one hand, it creeps by—hour by hour, task by task, one Monday at a time.
And yet somehow… decades disappear when we’re not looking.

One day you’re saying, “I’ll get to it soon,”
…and the next, you’re wondering, “Where did all the time go?”

This tension is nothing new. Moses, a man who led through wilderness and waited on God longer than most of us wait in traffic, prayed this powerful line:

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
—Psalm 90:12 (NLT)

He didn’t ask for more time.
He asked to realize how short it is.
Because wisdom begins when urgency meets perspective.

💧 The Drip That Wears Down Stone

There’s a metaphor I keep coming back to:

A steady drip of water erodes solid stone.

It doesn’t look impressive.
It’s not flashy.
But it never stops.

That drip could’ve said,

“It’s too hard. It’ll take too long. What’s the point?”

But it didn’t. It just started.
And it kept going.
And years later, it carved a path through stone.

That’s not magic—it’s faithfulness.

⚠️ The Lie of “I’ll Do It Later”

We don’t often choose to waste time—we just delay what matters.

  • I’ll work on my health next month.
  • I’ll pray more when life slows down.
  • I’ll fix that relationship after this next season.
  • I’ll start the dream when I have more time.

But here’s the truth:
“Later” is not just a kind of opposite of but often the enemy of “now.”
And “now” is the only place where life actually happens.

✅ Just Start. And Don’t Stop.

The secret of the greats?
It’s not magic, talent, or motivation.

It’s this simple rhythm:
“I’ll just start. And never stop.”

  • Open the Bible today—even if it’s one verse.
  • Go for the walk—even if it’s ten minutes.
  • Say the prayer—even if it feels small.
  • Have the hard conversation.
  • Take the first step in faith.

And then, tomorrow… do it again.

Faithfulness over time = fruitfulness over time.
That’s how legacies are built.

✨ Reflection Questions

Take a moment to pause and reflect:

  1. Where have you been waiting for “later” to take action?
  2. What’s one small step you can take today to begin again?
  3. What “drip” could you commit to—trusting it will shape your future in time?
  4. How does Psalm 90:12 shift the way you view your hours, days, and decades?

🙌 Final Thought

You don’t need a dramatic restart.
You just need a small, faithful beginning—and the courage to keep going.

Because life is short.
But the impact of a faithful life?
That can last forever.
