🍬 That Time Lucy Worked the Assembly Line
I have fond memories of my mom cackling at episodes of I Love Lucy. Lucille Ball was a comedic genius, and one scene stands out in my mind even now.
Lucy and Ethel are working the assembly line in a candy factory. The belt picks up speed, and they’re hilariously unqualified for the job. Desperate to keep up, they start stuffing chocolates in their mouths, down their shirts, and into their hats. Chaos reigns.
And America laughed. Because deep down, we all relate.
I suppose today’s thought is not unlike other recent posts: Life is Short and Start and Never Stop – guess it’s a theme lately…
⏱️ Life Doesn’t Slow Down
Life often feels like that conveyor belt.
The work, the responsibilities, the emails, the decisions… they just keep coming.
Relentlessly. Without asking if we’re ready for the next one.
You try to keep up. You miss a few. You feel overwhelmed.
And then what?
You can’t just stuff the missed moments in your pocket and hope no one notices.
You can’t rewind the belt.
And worrying about what you missed won’t help either.
🧠 The Mind Game That Steals Our Joy
When we constantly replay our missed chances—opportunities, relationships, words left unsaid—we drown in regret.
When we fixate on what we might miss tomorrow, we suffocate under anxiety.
Worrying about what didn’t get on the belt—or what might not—robs us of what is on the belt right now.
And the most tragic part?
We miss the present moment while obsessing over the past or the future.
📖 What Scripture Says
Jesus put it plainly:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
—Matthew 6:34 (NIV)
And Paul reminds us:
“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on…”
—Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV)
You can’t press on if you’re looking backward.
You can’t embrace the moment if you’re bracing for what might go wrong next.
✨ A Better Way to Handle the Belt
So, what do we do?
- Let go of the past. Learn from it, yes. But don’t carry it forward like unwanted baggage.
- Stop rehearsing the future. Plan wisely, but don’t borrow anxiety.
- Focus on what’s in front of you. The task. The person. The grace for today.
Maybe the secret isn’t slowing down the conveyor belt.
Maybe it’s learning how to move with it—on purpose, with peace.
📝 Reflection Questions
- What’s one “missed opportunity” from your past that still haunts you?
- What “future event” are you anxious about that’s stealing joy from today?
- What’s right in front of you on the conveyor belt today that needs your attention and grace?
🙏 Final Thought
You can’t catch every candy on the belt.
But you can learn to laugh more, worry less, and live wisely—knowing that God is with you in every season and every pace.
Life’s moving. Let’s move with it—with joy, purpose, and trust.
